U10 PLAYER DEVELOPMENTAL Philosophy

The PYSA U10 Player Developmental Program believes that development occurs when:
Players are encouraged to try new skills without fear of failure.
Players are placed in competitive training and match environments that are structured for developmentally improving, not results (winning) oriented.
•
Players are grouped with other players of similar ability during training so that all players are challenged at the appropriate level.
• Coaches function in the role of a facilitator by creating positive training environments that foster technical, physical, and cognitive development.
•
Players are given ample opportunity/repetitions to experiment and improvise with the soccer ball in both training and matches.
Players are praised for creative thoughts and actions during training and matches even if it results in losing the ball.
Coaches and spectators model sporting behavior by making only positive comments to players and officials during matches.
Players are required to play all positions on the field including goalkeeper.
Players play at least 50% of each game.

U10 PLAYER DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM

The Petoskey Youth Soccer Association’s (PYSA) U10 player developmental program is under the guidance of Grant Reed, our u10 Player Developmental Coordinator. The goal of the U10 Developmental program is to provide boys and girls with a fun soccer environment in which they can develop their skills. The boys and girls sessions are held separately in the Fall and Spring Seasons. When you register for the Academy you are enrolling in a comprehensive soccer experience. The $250 registration fee covers both the fall and winter/spring season and includes the following:

Fall Season
• Adidas Uniform (to be turned in after Spring season) and a custom PYSA Academy ball (to be given after Spring season with return of jersey)
• Two practices a week. Nights and times are TBD
• Weekend friendlies; Saturday (girls) or Sunday (boys)
• The U10 player developmental program will participate in the Petoskey Tournaments*

Winter Season
• Optional indoor skill sessions @ NCMC (Feb.-Mar.) Nights TBD

Spring Season
• Two practices a week. Nights and times are TBD
• Weekend friendlies; Saturday (girls) or Sunday (boys)
• The U10 player developmental program will participate in the Petoskey Tournaments*

Expectations:
•  With the exception of a few local friendlies in nearby communities, the entire program will take place in Petoskey at the Click Road Soccer Complex.
• U10 player developmental coordinator is responsible for training sessions and will be available at tournaments, but the program requires parent volunteer coaches for weekend friendlies and coaching development
• Team managers are required for each team and responsible to distribute communication to teams relayed from Director.
• Each player must have a family representative for volunteering at season and tournament work bees and a 2-4 hour tournament shift.
• Petoskey Tournament Dates are the first weekend of June and the weekend after Labor Day in September

Registration: Open to the first 24 boys and the first 24 girls that sign-up. State rosters allow for a maximum of 12. If there are players beyond that we will maintain a waiting list and aim for a  third team or allow proactive players.
