Petoskey Youth Soccer Association

Our Breakers teams participate in the Michigan State Premier Soccer Program (MSPSP) each spring. League play typically consists of a 10-team division, meaning 4-5 away games and 4-5 home games. Schedules are not finalized until late July, so exact travel commitments will not be known until that time. Most of our fellow MSPSP participants are located in the SE part of the state (Metro Detroit), however, we have seen teams from Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Bay City/Midland area in recent years.

While it is not possible to fully forecast travel, it is reasonable to expect at least two weekends of travel. We will do our best to play multiple games in a single weekend, but this relies on our opponents being able to host us in that manner.

Beyond MSPSP, Breakers also participate in the Petoskey Autumn Blast.

Breakers will practice two or three times per week in a 60-90 minute session. Exact nights & times will be determined after team formations.

It is important that all players trying out for the Breakers team(s) understand that this is a premier soccer program, meaning roster decisions, playing time, and coaching decisions will be merit-based. Equal playing time is not assured. While PYSA does understand there are meaningful costs and travel required for Breakers participation, this still does not guarantee a specific number of minutes for a player during games. The one thing each participant can count on is the opportunity to be fairly evaluated in a competitive environment throughout season. Players experience on the field will correspond with their commitment, performance, and effort.

Ashley Antonishen is a PYSA and Petoskey High School alumni who has returned to the area with a vast amount of soccer coaching experiences. She played collegiate soccer at Northland College (Ashland, WI) and was twice named UMAC All-Conference as a center midfielder. Ashley has a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Secondary Education along with an Athletic Coaching minor from Northland College and a Master’s Degree in General Education from Elmira College. “My coaching philosophy is very holistic, I want my athletes to be prepared physically, tactically, and emotionally. I believe athletics is a great learning environment for character skills and promotes healthy habits that will benefit our athletes long after their playing careers.”   Read more about Ashley Antonishen,

Q&A ZOOM MEETING Monday May 18, 2020 at 6pm
Coach Ashley will be hosting an informational meeting about the 2020 Breakers season over Zoom. This will be an informational Q&A and is a great opportunity for new prospective participants to learn more about the Breakers and PYSA. Returning parents/players are also encouraged to attend and receive the most current information regarding our program.

Typically, try-outs for all MSYSA players for the fall and/or spring season of the seasonal year may not be held earlier than the date established by the MSYSA board of directors. Pursuant to MSYSA Rule 3.4 A5, in early 2019 the board of directors established June 13, 2020 as the 2020 MSYSA Official Try-Out Start Date.

Unfortunately, MSYSA anticipates that ongoing social distancing restrictions in the State of Michigan (due to the COVID-19 pandemic) will inhibit the ability for our affiliated clubs to offer in-person tryouts for travel soccer starting June 13, 2020. As such, MSYSA will not sanction, affiliate, or insure in person try-outs this year. PLEASE VIEW MSYSA TEAM TRAVEL FORMATION POLICY.
