Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Register for PYSA?

Signing up for a team or program with our club is easy! Simply create an account at www.petoskeysoccer.com, and input your player(s) information. The site will then show you what, if any, sign up options are currently available. Our open team registration period for players u9-u14 is typically May 1 - June 1. After this period, PYSA will open individual teams for late registration if open spaces remain on those rosters. If you do not see any programs open for your player(s), contact [email protected] to see if any playing opportunities are currently available in your age group(s).

Our u15-19 teams are subject to a tryout process. Our girls' Breakers program typically hosts tryouts in June, while our Lakers boys try out in November. Monitor www.petoskeysoccer.com for specific information on tryout dates & times.

What Does it Cost to Participate in PYSA?

PYSA is proud to offer some of the lowest registration rates in the entire state proportionate to the services offered. Our u9-10 players pay $200 to cover fall, winter, and spring training, weekend friendly games, and the Petoskey Tournaments. Our Lakers & Breakers teams also include a hired coaching staff, which is billed at $200 per player for the year, in addition to the PYSA registration fee.

Players u9-10 are provided uniforms, while players u11-19 are required to purchase their own kits. This cost can vary but typically ranges $100-120. PYSA tries to select kits that will last multiple seasons whenever possible to minimize the frequency of this expense.

Additional costs may include tournament fees (not including Petoskey June and September), referee payments, coach travel expenses, and league fees. These costs can vary by team, but are typically minimal u11-14. Our u15-19 teams tend to travel more, driving higher costs.

What is the PYSA Academy?

Our Academy is designed to introduce our youngest members to the world of travel soccer. Academy teams practice 1-2 nights per week, and are encouraged to participate concurrently in the City of Petoskey Recreational Soccer program. A select number of games are played on the weekends, with travel strictly limited to nearby Northern Michigan communities. The goal of the PYSA Academy is to foster a safe learning environment where young players can develop a love for the game of soccer. Our priority is on player development at this age, not the scoreboard. Parents and players alike are expected to operate with this in mind.

What are the Breakers & Lakers Programs?

Our Breakers (girls) and Lakers (boys) programs are the premier leg of PYSA's offerings. Starting at the u15 level, our players transition from recreational play to premier competition. Teams are selected on a merit-basis, with an influx of competition from neighboring clubs and towns. Our teams typically participate in the Michigan State Premier Soccer Program (MSPSP), or operate as a competitive tournament team that travels to competitions throughout the state.

At the u11-14 level, PYSA continues to place their focus on player development and balanced playing time. Upon entering Breakers or Lakers, a player is expected to compete for a roster position or playing time, and is not guaranteed either. If you are interested in learning more about the Breakers or Lakers, email [email protected] for more information.

Does PYSA Offer Financial Assistance?

We are committed to preventing cost from preventing kids from participating in soccer. This starts with our exceptionally low rate structure, which offers exceptional value for the price point. We also provide $25 discounts to families that register multiple players in the organization. However, we realize some participants may need more assistance in order to play. PYSA does offer a scholarship program that can assist in covering some or all of the PYSA registration fee. If you are interested in applying anonymously for assistance, email [email protected] to request an application.

What is Expected of PYSA Members?

Despite keeping our costs so low for members, we are proud to provide world-class playing surfaces at our Click Road Soccer Complex , exceptional training by our paid staff, and year-round playing opportunities for our players. In order to pull this off, we rely heavily on the volunteer work of our membership. Members are required to participate in work bees throughout the season to maintain our Click Road facility (see your team manager for your team's scheduled work bees). You will also be asked to do a work shift in our June & September tournaments, which are the two largest revenue drivers for our organization. Volunteers are vital to making PYSA a vibrant, successful organization. Please register with the importance of your volunteerism in mind!
