2021 LAKERS INFO

Tryouts are open for all boys birth year 2007-2003

Petoskey Lakers tryouts will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at the CLICK ROAD SOCCER COMPLEX. Please ensure you arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to your scheduled tryout session. Players are expected to bring proper attire including cleats, shin guards, and dress in layers as needed. Players should also bring their own water. Masks are required for tryouts.

**In the event of inclement weather, PYSA may elect to move tryouts indoors. After registering for tryouts, please monitor your email for updates on location details as applicable.** (Bring your indoor soccer shoes or clean sneakers and appropriate indoor clothing.)

After tryouts are complete, results will be emailed to participants directly no later than 9 pm EST on Thursday, November 5, 2020. Similarly, if you did not make the active roster, you will be notified by email. Results of the tryout are being held confidential and will not be posted online. If you do not see an email notifying you of your result by 9 pm on Nov. 5, please contact DOC Ashley Antonishen at [email protected]. Please note, confirmation emails will be sent directly to the account you have used to register for tryouts. If that contact info needs to be changed, please update your account on www.petoskeysoccer.com

You will have until 5 pm on Friday, November 6, 2020 to accept your roster spot and complete payment. Failure to accept and complete the registration process may result in your roster spot being offered to someone else.

DOC, Ashley Antonishen will be hosting an informational meeting about the 2020 Lakers season at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 on Zoom (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89941165976). This will be an informational Q&A and is a great opportunity for new prospective participants to learn more about the Lakers and PYSA. Returning parents/players are also encouraged to attend and receive the most current information regarding our program.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you.

GAME/TOURNAMENT PLAY

Our Lakers teams participate in the Michigan State Premier Soccer Program (MSPSP) each spring. League play typically consists of a 10-team division, meaning 4-5 away games and 4-5 home games. Schedules are not finalized until late February, so exact travel commitments will not be known until that time. Most of our fellow MSPSP participants are located in the SE part of the state (Metro Detroit), however, we have seen teams from Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Bay City/Midland area in recent years.

While it is not possible to fully forecast travel, it is reasonable to expect at least two weekends of travel. We will do our best to play multiple games in a single weekend, but this relies on our opponents being able to host us in that manner.

Beyond MSPSP, Lakers also participate in the Petoskey Summer Invitational. Each team is also free to participate in an additional tournament if they choose. The Midland tournament (typically Mother's Day weekend) has been a popular one for our teams to attend in recent years.

TRAINING & COMMUNICATION

TRAINING
Starting in February, Lakers will practice at least one night per week in a 60-90 minute session. Exact nights & times will be determined shared by email.  Once we get to spring and can move training outside, practices are typically two times per week. Exact times will be determined as we get closer to spring and have received feedback on commute times, driving arrangements, etc from the involved players/parents.

COMMUNICATION
We teams are assigned, you will be added to the team's communication platform, TeamSnap. We utilize many features such as availability tracking and messaging/chat. The advantage to this platform is that players and families all have access to the information.

PLAYING FOR THE PETOSKEY LAKERS

It is important that all players trying out for the Lakers team(s) understand that this is a premier soccer program, with and roster decisions, playing time, and coaching decisions will be merit-based. Equal playing time is not assured. While PYSA does understand there are meaningful costs and travel required for Lakers participation, this still does not guarantee a specific number of minutes for a player during games. The one thing each participant can count on is the opportunity to be fairly evaluated in a competitive environment throughout season. His experience on the field will correspond with his performance and effort.

In the event there is a debit/credit calculated at year end, participants will be billed or refunded accordingly. We do expect the $565 being collected to be reasonably in line with actual anticipated costs.

IMPORTANT!

In order for a player to participate in Sunday's tryouts, his account with PYSA must be current. Any outstanding balances from the previous seasons or other PYSA programs must be paid in full prior to tryouts, or a player will be considered ineligible for selection to the team. Contact [email protected] if you need to make special payment arrangements, or you can simply bring a check payable to PYSA to Sunday's tryouts. Completed medical release and Heads Up Concussion forms can be brought to tryouts as well.
