In order for a player to participate in Sunday's tryouts, his account with PYSA must be current. Any outstanding balances from the 2018 season or other PYSA programs must be paid in full prior to tryouts, or a player will be considered ineligible for selection to the team. Contact [email protected] if you need to make special payment arrangements, or you can simply bring a check payable to PYSA to Sunday's tryouts. Although not mandatory, the player can bring the Medical Release and Heads Up Concussion form, completed, to tryouts.

Club Director Kyle Lieberman will also be hosting an informational meeting about the 2019 Lakers season at 5:30 pm on Monday, November 5, 2018 at the Click Road Soccer Complex. This will be an informational Q&A and is a great opportunity for new prospective participants to learn more about the Lakers and PYSA. Our Lakers teams participate in the Michigan State Premier Soccer Program (MSPSP) each spring. League play typically consists of a 10-team division, meaning 4-5 away games and 4-5 home games. Schedules are not finalized until late February, so exact travel commitments will not be known until that time. Most of our fellow MSPSP participants are located in the SE part of the state (Metro Detroit), however, we have seen teams from Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Bay City/Midland area in recent years.

While it is not possible to fully forecast travel, it is reasonable to expect at least two weekends of travel. We will do our best to play multiple games in a single weekend, but this relies on our opponents being able to host us in that manner.

Beyond MSPSP, Lakers also participate in the Petoskey Summer Invitational. Each team is also free to participate in an additional tournament if they choose. The Midland tournament (typically Mother's Day weekend) has been a popular one for our teams to attend in recent years.

Starting in January, Lakers will practice one night per week in a 60-90 minute session. Exact nights & times will be determined over the next week and shared by email by end of the month.

Once we get to spring and can move training outside, practices are typically three times per week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Exact times will be determined as we get closer to spring and have received feedback on commute times, driving arrangements, etc from the involved players/parents.

It is important that all players trying out for the Lakers team(s) understand that this is a premier soccer program, with and roster decisions, playing time, and coaching decisions will be merit-based. Equal playing time is not assured. While PYSA does understand there are meaningful costs and travel required for Lakers participation, this still does not guarantee a specific number of minutes for a player during games. The one thing each participant can count on is the opportunity to be fairly evaluated in a competitive environment throughout season. His experience on the field will correspond with his performance and effort.

Players with any outstanding balance owed to PYSA from the 2018 Lakers season or any other PYSA program are considered ineligible to participate in tryouts until their accounts are brought current. If you have a financial hardship that precludes you from bringing your account current, please email [email protected] confidentially to see what scholarship opportunities you might be eligible for.

Registration $200
Training Fee $200
League + fees $550**
Fees are due at the time the player accepts his position.
Tryout participation is free.

• Coaching Travel Stipend $60/day for every 24 hours on the road. All lodging costs covered by the team
• Ref fees for friendlies
• Tournament pro-rations
• MSPSP Fees

PYSA will collect $550 at the time a player registers to accept his position on the team. This covers the cost of registering with our club, entrance into the MSPSP, training fee, and anticipated pro-rations for things like tournaments, coach travel costs, and other incidentals. In the event there is a debit/credit calculated at year end, participants will be billed or refunded accordingly. We do expect the $550 being collected to be reasonably in line with actual anticipated costs.
